What happened?

I have been blogging for a while. And just last week I got hit with a huge spike of traffic. From what I can tell it looks like someone(s) has emailed my link around a bit. I was just wondering what happened? If you know please let me know. I would love to cater to your needs.

Charlie Brown Christmas

How refreshing!!!!
Something that I have realized while going out and shopping for Christmas gifts this year is that people don't wish you a "Merry Christmas" anymore. In fact they don't even say "Happy Holidays" They just say.. "Have a nice day" Come on it is Christmas! Christ was born! He came into this world as a helpless child so that he could walk in our shoes! Let's show some respect now!

A Christmas Video

Well Christmas is just around the corner. Honestly with two kids of my own I am not "ready". As everyone talks about getting "ready" for Christmas, and I go out to the store to get some our much needed 10 boxes of Cheerios I see everyone just running around carts full of junk to give away. Now don't get me wrong I like gifts just the same as the next person but every year I just want a little more. Not more "stuff" but more meaning. Yeah we have our traditions and we get to mingle with family members we haven't seen for years. Yet sometimes I think we really forget the true meaning of Christmas. I think this video says it all. Make sure you check out this link (http://www.thechristmasvideo.com/) to and pass it along to everyone that you can this Christmas season. Oh and remember the word Christmas means "more Christ".

Are you good enough to get to heaven?

The ESV Bible/Windows Live Writer/Plugin

The more and more I hear about the ESV bible the more I like it. They are doing some great things. I just love their translation.

Today I downloaded a new application called windows live writer. This should allow me to write posts to this blog and publish them with the greatest of ease. I am hoping it will get me to blog more often, but time will tell on that account.

For WLW (windows live writer) I have downloaded a small plugin that will allow me to insert a bible verse from the ESV bible (you were wondering how this all tied together weren't you?). We will test this out a bit in the near future as well. You can get the plugin here.

So in the meantime read this verse.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 3:16-17 (ESV)

memorizing scripture

I thought I would post this follow up to my quick blurb about the guy memorizing two chapters in the bible and reciting them. Honestly this intrigues me. I think about the dedication first off that this takes someone to memorize scripture this way. It is a true discipline to memorize this stuff. I have tried to memorize like a scripture a week in the past and this goes well for a short time. What intrigues me about memorizing a chapter or book in the bible are a couple of things.

First, if you memorize a book in the bible it will have more meaning that if you memorize random verses in the bible. Context Context Context, the three main important things to think about while reading the bible in the first place. But imagine if you will the impact scripture will have on you if you actually have a book memorized and can after reciting it several times you realize that the context of the text means something so different than you took it before? Imagine if you will the way scripture could change your life in this way. imagine how the text can come alive through it now dwelling in your heart.

Second, if you memorize multiple books in the bible it can help your brain. By exercising your brain in this way you can unlock the somewhat dormant parts of your brain. Your job could get easier because now your brain is accustomed to recalling information quickly and easily. Your job and home life will become a little bit easier because you could quickly relate it back to biblical truths.

Third, if your memorize multiple books in the bible you become more discerning. Listening to many teachings it is very possible to have a pastor/teacher take scripture and twist it a bit to mean what they want it to mean. This would be so much easier to spot if you were soaked in the word and had these books memorized. Also in reading different non bible books you can quickly recall what a certain scripture reference says without having to go and look it up.

So as you can see there really isn't many negative reasons for not memorizing scripture besides. "I just don't have enough time" But you had enough time to read this post now didn't you? .... sorry I just had to.

So go here (http://www.fbcdurham.org/writings/Scripmem.htm) and find out how to actually do it. I am going to start tomorrow.

drummer of a different color

I have a couple of friends who are drummers. If you don't know them they are the types that find rhythm in anything and everything. They are definitely different in all they do. Whether it is in their drumming or just in everyday life. I found this clip of Animal of the muppets and honestly it makes me laugh almost every time I watch it. It reminds me of all of the drummer friends that I have now and that I have had in the past. Enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed it.
