sprint-nextel

So the merger has taken place. We are seeing different subtle changes. Naturally even working here people don't tell you everything about what is going on until it happens. I figure by blogging about it I am not in anyway shape or form ruining their element of surprise. So tomorrow is our first day with the new branding. All things with the old logo are done for, so now I have about a million shirts, cards, cups, etc. that are getting thrown by the wayside. Some day I figure this stuff will be worth some money? Soon our store will be decked out in yellow and black. No more red and black for sprint. No, we now have yellow and black just like those danger signs... Wait.. that isn't a good scheme now is it? Caution you are now entering sprint-nextel.
We have also seen where some calls going to nextel phones are showing up as a pcs to pcs call. As well as a new plan that offers unlimited Ready Link which is sprints two way service. Things are changing yo and we can't stop it. Keep your eyes peeled now for the yellow and black.

witnessing

We Christians seem to think, for some reason, that if we dress a certain way, if we talk a certain way, and if we wear a cross, and carry a bible, that we are witnessing to the unsaved. My question today is: Is that enough? So you stop by the side of the road and help that poor guy whose car stalled. You grab something off the top shelve for some old lady. You are friendly to everyone. You don't curse. And you memorize scripture in your spare time. Then you get one to two people in 5 years who come up and say something like.. Cool shirt, or , hey there is something different about you, or something similar. Is this what God has destined us to? We are not merely here to get the most people converted to Christ. But for goodness sake if you don't mention Christ at all then how can you gain even one for the kingdom? So, my point being, even if it is mostly for me, stop thinking that you will gain someone to Christ merely by your actions. Who in the bible did it this way? No one that I can find.

who is a christian?

I just read this post over at Eric Crouch's site, that was a quote by Charles Spurgeon talking about hypocrisy.
"I am told that Christians do not love each other. I am very sorry if that be true, but I rather doubt it, for I suspect that those who do not love each other are not Christians." -Charles Spurgeon
This brings up an interesting thought. What happens in life when you get a guy/gal that goes to church every Sunday. They participate in worship, maybe in the choir. They are always leading prayer in your bible study. You look up to them so much as a model Christian for all of these works that they do. Then, you read in the paper that this person was picked up for drunken driving, or maybe they are picked up for stealing something from the local walmart. Is this person a Christian? According to Spurgeon this person is not a Christian. Maybe that isn't the whole case too. Let's look at another example. You have a Church leader who is always putting people down. Now this leader is a devote follower of Christ. I mean they read the bible every day. They serve communion. They are on 12 of the 15 committees in your church. But they never encourage someone else. They never try to lift someone up. They are always cutting down someone. Then you think. Well love isn't all about those warm fuzzies. You are right. So let's look at a third and final person. You see this person walking around the church all the time. Every time the doors open this person is in there. They are always complimenting the ladies on their dresses. They are always telling the choir that they are doing an awesome job. Way to go dude. You love people. Then he sees the church leader talking down to people. Still he goes up to that person and tells them what an awesome person they are. Then he sees the person stealing from the local walmart. Instead of confronting the issue he tells this person what a great job they did in the choir that Sunday. He leaves out the fact that they are breaking one of God's Laws. They are stealing. Part of love is telling people that they are not walking in the light.
I want to encourage you today to love someone. If you see your brother fall. Tell him about it in a loving way.

soon there will be two (2)

A little over two years ago my wife was pregnant and miserable. At that time it was she and I and two dogs and a cat that lived in this house. Time has progressed since then. Now we have a gorgeous two year old girl who lightens our day every moment. We have no more pets, and again my wife is very pregnant and miserable. Now instead of chasing the dogs around and making sure the cat has all of its food and such she is chasing around a little talking girl who thinks her name is Emma Dumpty cause I laughed so hard when she mispronounced our last name a week ago. Soon... there will be two of these things running around this house. I must say I am quite excited, as well as quite scared. Am I ready for such an endeavor? Am I ready to teach them all they need to know about God as they grow up? I just pray right now that God gives me the strength and the wisdom that I need to grow up two wonderful children in Christ.
Soon, there will be two (2).

rejoice in GOD's law

Today's verse of the day kind of relates to what I am going through right now in my studies. I am trying to go through Ray Comforts Biblical Evangelism course, which uses God's law as one of it's staples. So today's verse says "I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches." (Psalm 119:14). So what if we did truly rejoice in God's law like we would riches? I have to admit something to you. I have actually thought of how cool it would be to be rich just last night. Watching this show about car sound systems and stuff.. they put in this really rad system in this hum-v that was so loud that you could pull it into a dance club, open the doors, and you would have your entertainment right there. Now I don't need something like that, but it sure would be cool. But seriously what if I rejoiced in God's statutes more? Statutes... what the crap is that? According to answers.com it says "a law" (ok, that is the shortened version). So, the question I leave you and me with today is... what would a person look like who rejoices in God's law more than riches? I hope that someday that person looks like me.

Stem Cell Research

Ok, so I know there is much debate on this but I have to throw something out there. First of all I am not well versed in this nor have I tried to study it at all. But the other day I was listening to Focus on the Family on CDR radio and Dr. Dobson was talking about the subject. He brought up that recent studies show that adult stem cells have been proven to be flexible enough to do the same research on as the embryonic stem cells. Yet that is something you don't hear in the news very often. I will tell you this. If anyone has had a baby, and has gone in for that first ultrasound and seen that little baby moving inside mom's belly. Then you would never think about taking that life. Take some time to listen to his broadcasts on the subject. Please.

weirdness in blogville

So today there isn't much to write about. There is a lot on my mind. Right now I am listening to "Here is Our King" by David Crowder and it reminds me of a post that Hogan (from the band) wrote. Some how I feel the same way today.
I feel like there needs to be a change soon. I know I have second child on the way and I am very much looking forward to that. But I just feel that God is preparing me for something huge. I keep having thoughts and dreams of going back to school. My dream I guess is to get enough financial aid and grants to be able to pay for food and housing for my family. This may be very far fetched but it is my dream at this point. See, I would like to do something with music. I would like to write music, you know the type of music you hear big bands play and stuff. I would also like to write, perform, produce music. Music is becoming a bigger part of my life every day. I feel like I lost something when I stopped playing for my church, but as I am realizing more and more sometimes this purging is necessary to boost you forward. See if I were still playing for my church I don't think I would be to this point. This point where I just think about music, this point where I just want to listen to more and more music, this point where music just drives my soul.
So, in short, I have nothing to say today. And please be in prayer for my dreams and hopes for the future. More to come later. ---chris

GOD affirms

Isn't it great when God smacks you in the face twice? Yesterday I talked about "am i better?". And briefly I talked about Christians thinking that they are better than other people yet they do nothing to help out even the people that they don't like. Today I read the verse of the day-- James 1:22 "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." ummmmm.... ok God I get it you want me to do something. So I urge all of you.. Go do something.. Do it.. Stop reading this and go do it.. you haven't left yet.. go now.

am i better?

This morning while I was praying, God unveiled something to me. So manytimes we throw ourselves into the Christian faith so that we can be a good witness. We hope that other people will see the joy in our lives, that other people would see us changed. So we go to church, we read the bible and we pray. Then we walk around every day and our speach may have changed, the music we listen to may have changed, our lives on the inside may have changed, but nothing else changes. We go day to day trying to be a "good witness" yet we do nothing. We easily get burnt out and think that nothing has really changed at all, I mean we love God and all but... nothing else has changed really has it? Here is the part that we are missing. We don't DO anything. Part of being a good witness is doing for other people. My buddy Eric is a prime example, in one of his latest posts he talks about giving a girl a ride down the street.. he did something.
If we live our lives exactly how the non-Christian does and we don't do anything, then how are we a good witness? How do we show that God loves them and us if we do nothing. I know there is more to Christianity than that but if God commands us to love and even says that the greatest commandment is to love then why would you not do anything? Why would you drive by that person who is stuck by the side of the road cause he looks scary? Why would you not help that old short lady in the supermarket get those cans off the top shelf. Help someone today. Love someone. Even, love the people who hate you. It will pay off I promiss you that. God is never wrong. Be a Christian who does something.

refuge

Psalm 119:114 "You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word."
In this psalm the psalmist is writing a love song about God's law. He is in the pit of dispare ready to die and he finds joy in the words the Lord has written to him. With that he says You are my sheild! I put my hope in your word. Do I do that. I am not in the amount of trouble the psalmist was here and do I put my hope in the Lords Word? Do I find refuge in Him? Is He my Sheild?
